Hoobastank, whom we all know from their hit single from 2004, ‘The Reason’, are all set to give their debut Indian performance in a week from now. The American rock band is performing at the 5th Field, Polo Ground in Shillong, Meghalaya on Saturday, June 29, 2013 in an event titled as ‘The Reason is Shillong’, organized by The Northeast Today magazine as a celebration of their sixth anniversary. The event was announced earlier this month and there has been a surge of excitement amongst all music lovers in the northeast since then. Shillong, being the Rock Capital, has been a host to many big concerts such as Scorpions, Nazareth, White Lion, etc. This is first international gig in Shillong, in almost five years. A show in Kolkata was also on the talks but things didn’t work out because of the band’s busy schedule.
The band was formed in 1994 in Agoura Hills, California, with singer Doug Robb, guitarist Dan Estrin, drummer Chris Hesse, and original bassist Markku Lappalainen. They were signed to Island Records from 2001 to 2012 and have released five albums and one extended play to date, which have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. The current line-up of the band is: Doug Robb (vocals and guitars), Dan Estrin (guitars), Chris Hesse (drums) and Jesse Charland (bass)
The other bands performing at the event are:
Pip Of The Fourth Mother: An alternative/power-pop outfit from Shillong, who will be taking up the stage after 16 months
Girish And The Chronicles: A band from Gangtok that reminds you of the Hard Rock Scene of the ’70s and ’80s
BK Hrangkhawl and The Band: Singer/Songwriter, mostly known for his song ‘The Journey’.
Alobo Naga & the Band: Winner of “Best Indian Act” MTV Europe Music Awards 2012, the band plays contemporary progressive rock, with some folk and pop elements
