So we finally get to see what the much hyped Motorhead tribute album has got to offer. Two tracks: ‘Turn You Round Again’ by Bevar Sea and ‘God Was Never On Your Side’ by Albatross, were released for preview yesterday, after the album’s Facebook page posted an update about receiving the masters from all the bands. Bevar Sea, the Stoner/Sludge martyrs from Bangalore, posted their slower version of the song on Vimeo, totally maintaining their signature sludgy sound. The video also features a fight sequence from the biographical martial arts movie, Ip Man 2, along with the lyrics to the song. After a few hours of release of ‘Turn You Round Again’, Albatross posted their version of ‘God Was Never On Your Side’, which was dedicated to the late Iron Maiden drummer, Clive Burr. The song carries a different essence from their usual horror metal sound, but still is pretty brilliant.
For those of you who don’t know, the album is an enterprise of Iron Fist Records and was announced in late 2012. The compilation will feature twelve of India’s most recognized bands, who will be contributing twelve brilliant (hopefully) Motorhead covers. The brilliant album art by Bevar Sea’s guitarist, Rahul Chacko, features our national animal, wearing a warrior helmet, reminiscent of Motorhead’s mascot, War-pig aka Snaggletooth. It is scheduled to be released sometime in May 2013 and is Iron Fist’s third release since Kryptos’ ‘The Coils Of Apollyon’ and Bevar Sea’s self-titled album.
