Calcutta, or Kolkata as it is known now, has been the epitome of cultural activities since the archaeological books date back. A city amalgamated with a blend of history and modern values, a place where one can see the legendary trams plying while the modern day metro buzzes through the underground, the British era “tongas” sharing the same road with two supercars are drag racing. Often regarded as the Cultural Capital of India, the city has a rich heritage of producing poets, dancers and musicians for generations. Jeepers Creepers is one such band of talented guys who are carrying forward the tradition of this beautiful city.

Jeepers Creepers were formed in 2011, the members of the band are –

Andy – Vocals and Guitars

Rishi – Guitars, Keyboards and Vocals

Sourav – Drums

Souvik – Bass

Jeepers Creepers released their EP – Odds and Favours, independently. The EP has two tracks, and I must say they are going on the right track as far as the music is concerned.

Coming to their sound, the first thing I had in my mind when I started listening to their EP was – “I have never heard something like this in my life”. I failed every single time I tried to analyse their music, they are totally out of this box to say the least. Here is an in-depth analysis of the two songs individually:-

She Digs a Whippersnapper

To start off with, strange name for a song. Opens up with a nice piano intro and just Andy on the vocals. The song has a lot of mood changes and a powerful bass-line. A lethal blend of Blues and Jazz with elements of Punk. A perfect combination for a feel-good song. Like I said earlier, the music is hard to describe, but it has this magnetic power over the listener. The song is just about 3 minutes long and leaves one wanting for more. Andy’s husky voice compliments the music very well and he has a very good range. The guitar solo during the bridge is well composed, the outside notes made it more funky and exciting.

Seven Pounds –

A fast paced Blues track is the best I can describe this song as. One of those songs which gets you grooving and moving. A simple guitar riff, but here most of the credit goes to Sourav and Souvik for the tight bass and drums synchronization they have created. If you are a fan of Psychedelic Rock and Jazz, then 1:37 to 2:05 is for you. Some really smooth Jazz bass lines by Souvik in that part.

The EP is very well produced, total high class material. The band has really nice compositions and undoubtedly they are a group of very talented musicians. In this time where you get a Metal band in every household, Jeepers Creepers are clearly out of the pack and have the potential to make it big one day. I personally would like to hear more from them and wish them best of luck for their future endeavours.
