I have reviewed 7 albums this month and out of that 5 have been 3-piece bands. I have been cursed with a 3-piece band album review for sure, but I ain’t complaining :P. From the cool chilly hills of Shillong, we have today Street Stories. The 3-piece band was formed in January 2010 and they have never looked back since. Amalgamating high energy and foot tapping music, Street Stories have gained a good amount of support in the local scene in the last 3 years and they released their debut EP just about a couple of months back.

Street Stories are:

Pezo Kronu – Guitar/Vocals

Riko Kronu – Bass/Vocals

Matsram Sangma – Drums

Consisting of 5 songs with a runtime of just about 17 minutes, the album will surely keep you engaged throughout the timespan. The theme of the album is inspired by vocalist Pezo’s love life; “The Apple” would be his girlfriend, while he is “The Clown”.  The simplicity of the songs and lyrics is what makes the EP very special and enjoyable. Everyone has fallen in love at least once in their lifetime and they can surely relate with the lyrics. The music on the other hand is very refreshing and full of energy; the very thing they are attributed for during live gigs. Songs like Quest for Question and Just Like In Fairytales score full points in that area. Another interesting thing that one wouldn’t help but notice would be the variations they have in their music. No matter how long or short the song is, Street Stories ensure that the audience is hooked up and it doesn’t sound monotonous.

The basslines and drums in the songs have been great too. Some hard hitting drums in display from Matsram accompanied by some pumpy-bluesy basslines from Riko to compliment the music. Pezo’s vocal range is very nice and is perfectly tuned for the kind of music they play. The music sound effortless and one can say that the band is enjoying everything they play. The energy, as mentioned before, is tremendous.

Street Stories are a group of very talented young musicians, who love doing what they do; something that the Indian music scene requires at this moment. I would rate them as the next big act from India, eagerly waiting for their debut album now.
