It is funny how you can discover music at the most unexpected places. And that is exactly why I love my job. Soham Bhattacharya, better known by his stage name tHesoHam, is a Singer/Songwriter based in Kolkata. Coming from a musical background, he has the distinction of performing in events like Rolling Stone& Ray Ban Never Hide Sound OpenMic, Channel V Nokia India Fest Finale in Goa, Street Music Festival, etc. along with being featured in TV Southasia Talk Show, RBN Internet Radio Show and more. He released his debut EP – Being Myself, consisting of four songs and it has got a pretty nice response till now.

With a runtime of just over 10 minutes, the EP packs a lethal punch. His influence of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler can be clearly distinguished from the mix bag of Classic Rock and Country sound in the songs.

The track listing is-

A Friend Like You

Imagination & Reality

I Miss You (The Naughty Funny Song)

Tears of Pain

Here is a song by song analysis.

A Friend Like You has a nice country feel to it. With an eclectic mix of Bluegrass and country with hints of Jazz, the song took me back to the time when John Denver and Tracy Chapman used to rule my playlist. Though I would have liked the recording quality to be a little better, but it is good enough to tap your feet throughout the song.

I really enjoyed the progression in Imagination & Reality. The song has a simple progression, but sometimes simple things make more impact. I would have liked a more definitive bass line in the song though, that would have been a complete soul stirring package then.

I Miss You and Tears of Pain are two songs that would set your mood. With the Blues and Country influences fused to perfection, your ear drums are in for a nice melody. The guitar fillers in I Miss You have been really well improvised, but I really couldn’t find a reason why it is called “The Naughty Funny Song”. Maybe I have a dirty mind.

The recording quality as I have mentioned before, is average. It is good enough to enjoy the songs, but I have definitely heard better mixes. The composition is no doubt top class, simple yet touches the soul. Just as Old School as it gets.

Wishing tHesoHam best of luck for the future.
