Top 8 Concerts to hit India:
India witnessed an epic number of concerts this year. And fortunately for the nation, most concerts turned out to be a whooping success. From selling out tickets a month into announcements to happy fans lining up in small crowds to enjoy legendary bands play, most concerts had more ups than downs. However there was something that eight of these concerts had that just made them tip over the already music heavy iceberg.
8. Ziro Music Festival: With a line-up that made you more than curious, this festival was one of those that had you itching to know more. So after availing the passes and making your way to the amazing Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh, this concert does not disappoint. Showing the multi-talented Indie culture of the country, this year’s Ziro highlighted The Vinyl Records and Lou Majaw in much splendour. And the turnout was one that complimented the bands. The crowd understood the music and being an insane indie fan myself, I can’t say I blame them.
7. Above & Beyond #TATW450 Concert: As mentioned earlier, a diverse set of people arrived in our fabulous country to perform. This showed off one thing for sure. The country had the ability to manage e a concert ticket for its genre of choice. This was witnessed at the A&B concert. A loyal fan base showed up at the Jayamahal Palace in Bangalore to show support and enjoy the mind-boggling party that would be Above and Beyond. And the sheer magnanimity showed through in the sound and light work, which reflected an international standard.
6. Enrique Iglesias, Live in India: When most people heard that Enrique was coming to town again, there was a surprising enthusiasm. But nothing could beat the shrill echoing cries of that 14-18 crowd that Enrique seemed to have tapped into. Personally, I am not sure even he knows the effect he has on those girls. Spilling in from school to Pre-University alike, this concert featured a much younger and female crowd. One that knew his every song, every beat and, of course, every abs movement.
5. Slayer, Live in Concert: Most of the concerts happened towards the end of the year. But one of the few that was anticipated since the beginning was Slayer, Live in Concert. The metal community came out by the hoard to watch this act take the stage and the chant one more would not leave the air as the concert ended. The band was everything and more than expected leaving fans with the hope that the band enjoyed the concert as much as the listener urging them to return soon.
4. Children of Bodom at TGIOF: Though the gods rained down on this parade, the music never stopped. And neither did the enthusiasm for the crowd or how much they enjoyed themselves. The large crowd that has gathered the Beer festival kicked it up a notch the minute the band hit the stage. The music was right, the beer was right, the mood was right. Everything came together perfectly at TGIOF, making this concert one of the memorable ones and taking TGIOF to a whole new level.
3. Eristoff Invasion with David Guetta: A concert of a lifetime, this was true meaning of phenomenal party. And you know it’s a success when the artist himself jumps up on the console and bounces up and down. The crowd knew every song, Guetta played every hit. Known for being one of the happiest DJ’s, one can see why this guy has manages to crawl his way into people’s hearts. One can also see how he manages to control the Rio festival crowd that continues on for more than ten km. Hands down, one of the most amazing EDM presentations to hit our country.
2. NH7 Weekender, Bangalore/Delhi/Pune: Yes the entire country’s music loving community tends to join hands and come together for NH7’s Weekenders but justice is served one you see the many bands on the many stages. A concept that generated excitement now draws a loyal crowd as it saw this year, featuring a new and old but always interesting line-up of bands that’s have a high element of quirk.. This year’s line-up at the three cities saw Testament and Megadeth set the stage ablaze, something that will stick in everyone’s minds for years to come.
1. Carlos Santana, Live in India: A concert that witnessed the old and the new of Bangalore come out to groove, there was nothing quite like the sight of the crowd at the Santana Concert. It was pure beauty. Generation witnessed this musician together. People came down for the concert just to honour the legacy of music passed down from their forefathers. The concert showed off how beautiful India can be as a musical culture and it didn’t hurt that Santana rocked the stage for three hours only to break to watch his mesmerising wife tear up the drums.
