BLaNK – Putting Chennai on the Map
Chennai, TN – April 17th, 2013 – BlaNK – a Chennai based electronica / live music fusion act – also currently ranked India’s #1 Pro DJ Act – have just released their latest promo video, created for them by Submerge – India’s leading dance music portal. The band consists of DJ Manny; DJ Skip – a turntablist; VJ Alive; on visuals; and Nirupama, a vocalist/multi-instrumentalist.
Taking Chennai to the National Stage
Chennai based electronic / live act BLaNK are fresh out of playing to an audience of 10 000+ people – when they opened for the ever popular DJ Tiesto, in Bangalore on March 30th, 2013. The act were excited about bringing their sound to such a large audience in India, and representing Chennai as a city with a strong and thriving talent pool, though often under represented on the national scene. Their set was received with great enthusiasm by Bangalore based festival goers.
Although BLaNK have played alongside a variety of internationally renowned names in the EDM and music scene – including the likes of BT, Dave Seamen, Funkagenda, Martin Roth, Flo Rida, and most recently Tiesto – the band has often found it a challenge to find support in their home city of Chennai. “We are proud to be a Chennai based act, and would really like for the city to support our
mission to make the country take notice of Chennai talent – which truly is in a league
of its own – but possibly not adequately promoted”, says DJ Manny, of the act.
“Chennai is not necessarily the first city that comes to mind, when one thinks of the EDM scene in India,” says Nirupama – instrumentalist/vocalist for BLaNK – “But this is what intrigues us most about the city – its potential. It is seething with so much talent, and we’ve found audiences to be very receptive to new sounds; it’s just about building appropriate venues, to ensure that fresh music can be heard here, and scenes can be created”.
However, with a few high profile gigs in the pipeline for the future, and with their increasingly closer association with Submerge – considered one of India’s leading dance music movements – BLaNK are excited to tour the country, and get their music out to more audiences. Their philosophy of open electronica music experiments with various genres, including Deep House, Tech House, Techno, Progressive, and Break Beat, fused with the earthy tones of various live instruments, classical Indian influenced melodies, and exclusively produced customized cinematic visuals. Their vision involves reinterpreting the definition of dance music, by experimenting with various sounds and live elements; and also putting Chennai on the national map, as a vital, and flourishing city in the Electronic Dance Music scene.

BLaNK are currently ranked India’s #1 Pro DJ Act, after their victory at the MTV Ultimate DJ Championships. They were the official DJs for Submerge and MTV, and have performed at the 2011 edition of Bestival in England, playing to an audience of 55,000 people. The act comprises of Manny (DJ); Skip (DJ/turntablist); Alive (visuals); and Nirupama (multi-instrumentalist/vocalist).
