Event Review – Bangalore Open Air 2012

The fans in India had probably just recovered from the onslaught that was Lamb of God a couple of months ago when the first ever Wacken Open Air in Bangalore, ie. Bangalore Open Air was unleashed on to the city. And what a show it was! with metalheads arriving from all parts of the country to witness the best of Indian Metal headlined by Suidakra and Kreator from Germany.

It started at 10AM – with the “Wacken Metal Battle India”. Zygnema from Mumbai won the honor of getting to play at THE Wacken Open Air later in August.

It was as though a caged beast was unleashed on to the stage breaking any barrage in sight with thundering drums, heavy guitars and bass tuned lower than you can reach and screaming vocals to make anyone’s spine chill.

TheorizedAlbatrossBevar Sea1833 ADDying EmbraceEccentric Pendulum displaying that Metal has definitely arrived in India with the quality of live shows getting better every year in Bangalore and Kryptos being nothing short of providing the perfect brutal ending to the Indian bands’ performances.

Suidakra, who had opened for Opeth earlier this year, were a huge hit then and outplayed themselves yet again with their unique brand of (forgive me for lack of a better term), “German Celtic Metal”.

Kreator was nothing short of awesomeness belting track after track with some of the best thrash and speed metal to ever grace Bangalore city. One had to just look at the stage set up before the show to get an idea of what to expect.

All in all, Bangalore Open Air was a huge success. With Iced Earth not getting their Visa (F**king Government) and palace grounds banning concerts, it was great to see the entire metal brotherhood to come together and forget all their differences and celebrate Metal \m/
