Gig Review – Korn in India

Korn – The Gods of Nu-Metal blew everyone away with the energetic, head-banging, splendid performance.

We had General passes, which meant we were at the second barricade and far far away from the actual stage. The concert opened at around 5pm with acts like Dj SUmit Sethi, Boomerang( a Mizoram based band, who were pretty good).
After about 90 minutes of this, finally the Giant LCD at the back flashed KORN and there they were, coming out on to the stage. J.D walked slowly to the mic, almost lazily, and then he smirked and we were off.

The crowd roared and by the time the first song was up, fans were jumping up and over the second barricade and into the premium section.
The security guards sent many of them back and i think one or two got slapped,
and that is when all hell broke loose.

From the right flank i saw a huge wave of fans jumping over and sprinting across the field towards the stage, followed by the guards,
and then the left flank broke loose. The security realising that this was already out of their control, asked us all who were in the middle and starting to jump the barricades to calm down and come around the barricades.

I said, screw that thought, I leapt over the two iron barricades and leaving my friends behind sprinted ahead. I was merely 15ft away from the stage when my friends finally caught up and joined me.

From then on the details are hazy, all i remember is that Korn played song after song off their new and old albums and the crowd just went insane.

Get-Up the song they did with Skrillex off their new album, received a huge response, the crowd roared and sang in sync with J.D, .. Shut the fk up, Get up..

And you could see that as much as the crowd was enjoying their music, Korn loved the response they got from their Indian Fans.

After a few more songs off their new album like Chaos lives in everything, My wall, Narcissistic Cannibal (again a huge crowd favourite), I wish they had performed Fuels the comedy, but meh. The dubstep influence on their new album really seemed to strike a chord with the fans.

They then moved on to classics like Falling away from me, blind, Freak on a leash, ONE, and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” , which i gotta say kicked butt, and the crowd responded by screaming back the lyrics and creating an awesome environment.

J.D even brought out bagpipes to cover shoots and ladders and wound up the show with this line, “Goodbye, all you people, There’s nothing you can say. To make me change my mind..”

They then handed out the goodies, signed copies of their new album, drumsticks and picks, I almost got my hand on a drumstick but it wasnt meant to be.

Overall Korn kicked ass just as I thought they would and then some.
I am glad I made it to the concert, It has been one of the best experiences of my life.
