The Lightyears Explode are a three piece garage/power pop/punk band from Mumbai, Maharashtra. Formed in 2009, the band comprises of Aaron Carvalho on Drums, Shalom Benjamin on Bass and Saurabh Roy on Guitars/Vocals. Since their inception “The Lightyears Explode” hit the Mumbai college circuit with a bang. They released their eponymous EP in March 2011.
Amey(CT Records): Tell us about your brand of music?
Saurabh(The Lightyears Explode): Catchy, high energy kinda chaotic and not giving a shit .
Amey: Tell us about your song on this compilation and your upcoming album?
Its about celebrating the night . Our nights are not spent in clubs or uh…sleeping . Its meeting close friends , driving around the suburbs, finding a house to get stoned in and looking for food and coffee.
Amey: What makes you punk?
Saurabh: Punk has always meant honesty to me. When we write a song, it’s about being true to the what the song means and feels like. Our favorite punk bands (eg- Husker Du, The Exploding hearts) are always honest and real, so that’s what it means to us, Be honest to yourself
and don’t give a shit about anything else.
Amey: What do you think this punk scene needs the most, and what are you doing about it?
Saurabh: Its needs more bands and it needs more people at gigs. The number of bands playing good in your face music, f*cking LOUD music has increased so much in the past few years, what the scene needs its a lot more of them.
