Norah Jones to Woo India

Norah Jones performing on stage during music concert

After years of waking up to Sunrise, Norah Jones fans have a reason to celebrate. Come March 2013, Norah will be headlining a new festival A Summer’s Day in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Though her half-sister, Anoushka Shankar has been around the country performing as well as headlining many a festival, this will be Norah’s debut performance, one that her innumerable Indian fans will truly enjoy.

Born to Pandit Ravi Shankar and Concert Pianist Sue Jones, Norah broke through in the year 2002 with her single Come Away With Me and has created a niche for herself since. An accomplished pianist and occasional actress, Norah is often considered Jazz music’s modern representation.

A Summer’s Day is a first of its kind concert that will be dedicated to women and the list of performers will reinstate this.  This one day festival is scheduled for early next year and promises to be the event to look forward to. The arrival of Ms. Jones was announced at the Loudest Day of the Year, a music event at Liberty Theatre in Mumbai by fest organiser, OML’s Vijay Nair. The exact details on the other acts are still uncertain and the organisers are making it their prime focus to draw in a variety of talent to showcase. The line-up will be both Indian and International.

Norah who has just released her fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts and has been touring with a new band will do the same throughout the three Indian cities she will be passing through in India. Incidentally, the album was produced by Danger Mouse and has already garnished much critical acclaim.  So here is hoping that the acclaim continues among the Jazz lovers in our country.
