Something different is slated to bewilder the local folk of a place near Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh in late September this year. It is Ziro Music Festival, a three day festival being organized by Delhi Band Menwhopause.
A blend of Music and outdoors will be brought out by artists like Blek, Menwhopause, Lucid Recess and more at this 3 day extravaganza. This is one of many festivals being hosted all across the country this year. With the subtle but sustainable success of such events in the past, it is expected that such events would scale up in the future. Even now festivals such as NH7 Weekender and Independence Rock Festival have been exhibiting some of the best talent the country has to offer and more.
A shift in location can be seen over the years with places such as Puri, Ladakh, Ooty hosting some fine events, catering not only to music fanatics but also nature enthusiasts, travellers and also people in search to experience something different.
Something similar yet different is being offered at Ziro, a festival for music lovers, art enthusiasts and wanderers. The festival is to take place at Ziro, a beautiful plateau town and headquarter of Lower Subansiri District. Located around 450 km from Guwahati. The flora and fauna here range from sub-tropical forests to silver fir trees, as well as a variety of ferns, bamboo, orchids and rhododendrons. Tickets are priced at Rs 1000 for one day or Rs 2500 for all three days. Details along with accommodation information will be posted on the festival website – click here. Camping facilities will also be available.
An interesting amalgamation of music genres would be seen at the festival. Performances by Indie Alternative Trio Blek, Post Punk Act The Dirty Strikes from Manipal, Frisky Pints presenting Indie Funk, Aftertaste presenting the gospel side of the rock scene and Peter Cat Recording Co. presenting some neo progressive tunes.
This Festival will be a good opportunity for those wanting the witness the contemporary vibe of the North East India’s music scene. With Lou Majauw, Digital Suicide, Street Stories, Lucid Recess, Omak Komut Collective and The Vinyl Records as representatives. One will also get a chance to witness Apatani culture first-hand as the festival is being hosted in their territory in Arunachal Pradesh.
Social Networking Pages for the festival are in operation. Organisers have promised to add more artists to this lineup. Certain licences would be required for domestic and foreign travellers to visit the festival. Details available on the website. Caution: Carry adequate supplies as required.
