Event Review – Liquid Soul Bounces Mumbaiveers @ Blue Frog on Friday Night

Liquid Soul performed on Friday the 27th at Blue Frog, Mumbai. Just another electronic artist performance for some and a god coming down to earth for some others, Liquid soul is a progressive psytrance project that has been around for years. This was his second performance at the frog and he lived up to the expectations.

The music scene in general and the electronica scene in particular have been blossoming in various parts of India lately. Blue Frog is one of the few venues in the country that has proactively organized events showcasing some of the best contemporary music talent of the globe. This holds true for all their venues. The performances in the month of April at Blue Frog saw just this.  Goa Gill, Liquid Soul, Shridhar +Thayill, Shri, were few of the artists that exploded minds at the frog lately.

Liquid Soul was the orchestrator for Blue Frog’s Friday night special. Liquid Soul has played at major music festivals across the world such as 303 Art Festival, Ozora Festival, Universo Paralello, etc and played at Universal Religion in Nepal too recently.

Liquid Soul aka Nicola Capobianco began his psychedelic trance journey in 1993. . Years of experiences playing at raves in Switzerland and love for the genre, Nicola started producing his own psy trance tracks. He hit the mainstage at Halluzi-Nation Festival (Synthetic Vibes, CH) in August 2002. Synthetic Vibes was also the name of the first album released in 2006.

The Siddharth Basrur project was scheduled to perform at the frog before the Liquid Soul performance.  A acoustic set filled with audience interaction. It was different opening from what one would expect before a psytrance gig.

Signature bass-lines, addictive non catchy melodies and space that had an identity of its own is what makes up Liquid Soul’s music. At the tempo of around 125 to 140 bpm, the venue reverberated to Nicolo’s tunes. A five hundred strong audience bounced to the rhythm throughout the set as Liquid Soul wrapped the audience is some old tunes and some new. A guest DJ opened the night for the main act with some techno. With some groovy tunes he got the audience going setting the dance floor all warmed before the liquid soul set.  The audience gave a loud cheer when nicolo arrived at the console to play. He crushed the audience straight up with a fat juicy kick bass combo. The people beauties, beasts and various other kinds filled up the venue to the brim. They echoed the vibe right back to the artist with some groovy moves on the dance floor.

The set ended by 1.10 AM with a massive applause and cheer. Liquid Soul warmed the spring summer night just right. An early end to a Friday night with only a one hour set from the headlining act. The audience did not mind it nonetheless it was worth it and they made the most it.
