October 6, 2013 Through The Never to Hit Theaters on October 16

Through The Never to Hit Theaters on October 16

For all those metalheads who were looking forward to it, the release date for Through The Never, the movie, is finally out. The 3D feature film by the American heavy metal legends, Metallica, hits the theatres throughout the country on October 16, 2013. The story of the film revolves around a silent protagonist named Trip (played by Dane DeHaan), who being a part of the band’s road crew, sets out on an adventure while delivering Metallica’s cargo in a truck. It also features concert sequences which were shot in August 2012 at two shows in Vancouver, Canada with the stage containing elements of many of Metallica’s previous live productions from the past 30 years.

Through the Never made its world premiere at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was mainly made for IMAX theatres and was released across United States on September 27, 2013, marking the 27th death anniversary of the band’s late bassist, Cliff Burton. It was expanded to other theatres on October 5, 2013. Till now, the reception of the movie has been fairly good with critics giving it a high score and declaring the live clips to be Metallica’s best till date.

As a part of the promotion, the band made a surprise appearance in Detroit at the Orion Music + More Festival, to promote the film by playing their debut album, Kill ‘Em All, in its entirety. They were officially announced to play a headlining set to close out the festival on June 9 but took the fans by surprise when they entered the stage under the name Dehaan, after the lead actor Dane DeHaan, and started off with the song ‘Hit The Lights’.

Lars Ulrich, the band’s drummer, tells the Revolver Magazine “I think that Metallica fans that are really into action films and movies with a lot of energy are going to be blown away. This is a very unique film. I don’t know what people are going to think of it. I like it. But obviously I’m biased.”

The soundtrack, which features a number of Metallica classics performed live in the movie, was released on September 24. The two-disc CD came out on Blackened Recordings, Metallica’s own label and was also rolled out in digital and vinyl formats.

Architects to Headline Saarang 2014

Saarang, the annual cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), is all set to feature the British metalcore giants, Architects. The Brighton-based band will be performing at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) inside the IIT-M campus on January 11, 2014 as the headliner of the festival’s pro-event, Rock Show. The festival, one of the biggest in South India, is known for bringing in massive rock and metal bands every year to create a stir among the music lovers. Opeth, HammerFall, Pain Of Salvation, Vildhjarta and Anathema are few artists that rocked the crowd in the last few editions.

Architects are known for their downright melodious tracks which are loaded with power-packed galloping riffs, ingenious keyboard harmonies and of course stupendous combination of clean and harsh vocals. The band was formed in 2004 and has released their five full length albums and one split EP with Dead Swans. The band currently consists of the vocalist Sam Carter, drummer Dan Searle and his twin brother, guitarist and keyboardist Tom Searle and Alex Dean on bass guitar. They are currently running an Indiegogo campaign to fund One Hundred Days – Almost World Tour, a film documenting their extensive 2012 world tour.

The band released their next three albums, ‘Hollow Crown’ (2011), ‘The Here And Now’ (2011) and ‘Daybreaker’ (2012), through Century Media before ending their terms with them.  The last studio album, ‘Daybreaker’ marks a music shift back towards the technical sound of their earlier albums; particularly Hollow Crown’ and received mixed reviews from fans and critics.

September 18, 2013 Nikhil Chinapa Parts Ways With Sunburn

Nikhil Chinapa Parts Ways With Sunburn

Following months of conflict, Nikhil Chinapa announced today that he will be parting ways with Sunburn, Asia’s premier EDM festival which has been held in Goa every year since 2007. Chinapahad conceptualized and helped create the festival and was, until now, the Festival Director. He was hoping that the issues would be resolved, but following various videos and public statements, he decided to call it quits when it became apparent that he was being pushed out of the very festival he brought into being.

However, Chinapa will very much remain in the Indian EDM scene; he will be working with Submerge, India’s leading dance music portal and a company which has revolutionized the music and clubbing scene in the country. It was Submerge which helped create the blueprint of Sunburn, through countless club events, dozens of DJ’s, legendary beach parties and its online community. Submerge has just launched AAA with Edge Global and Hermit.

Says Nikhil, “Let’s not forget that the scene we have in India today with festivals and the world’s biggest artists playing here has been built on a foundation of DJs and fans that have been championing this sound since the late 80s. Yes, our dance music scene has been around for over 25 years.” Along with Submerge, he has been instrumental in bringing the most prominent DJ’s (such as Swedish House Mafia, Alesso, Deniz Koyu, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd, Hardwell and Tiesto) and a host of international acts to India (Above and Beyond, Axwell, Paul van Dyk, Sanders van Doorn, Skazi, and GMS, to name a fraction). Nikhil intends to continue working with Submerge and his friends, promoting the music he loves.

The registrations for the competition start on September 19, 2013 and closes on September 22, 2013 (yes, just four days). There is no express selection procedure for the bands willing to participate. Strawberry Fields is a great opportunity for the up and coming bands to grow and take it to a whole new level. September 16, 2013 Kryptos Part ways with Bassist and Drummer

Kryptos Part ways with Bassist and Drummer

In a surprising turn of events, Kryptos part ways with bassist Jayawant Tewari and drummer Ryan Colaco. It was declared by frontman Nolan Lewis on Facebook last night that they have parted ways with the long time members. The official statement stated –

The band has amicably parted ways with long standing members Jayawant Tewari and Ryan Colaco. We’d like to thank them for everything over the years, for their unwavering dedication and for all the fantastic times we shared. We wish them all the very best for the future and we’re sure they’ll kick ass in everything they do.

As the legendary Freddie Mercury once said, ‘The show must go on’ and we welcome back founding member Ganesh K. (Bevar Sea, Witchgoat) on bass and skin slammer Anthony Hoover (Witchgoat, Neolithic Silence) on drums.

Jayawant was not a part of Kryptos’ recent European tour too. Madhav (ex-Greyshack) filled in as the bassist for the first couple of shows and then Ganesh joined the band for the rest of the tour. Going on with the farewell note, they went on to state a funny fact –

Things have a strange tendency to come full circle especially since it was 15 long years ago, during this very month in 1998 that Kryptos first saw the light of day and now here we are 15 years later with the feeling that it has started all over once again. Kryptos are taking a break till December this year, and the band will not be playing any gigs until then. We at Eight Octaves wish all the very best to the new recruits of the Old School militia and Jayawant and Ryan for their future endeavours.

September 10, 2013 THE DOWN TRODDENCE RELEASES ALBUM ART AND TEASER FOR THEIR DEBUT ALBUM.

THE DOWN TRODDENCE RELEASES ALBUM ART AND TEASER FOR THEIR DEBUT ALBUM.

Metal act hailing from Kerala, The Down Troddence (TDT) are all set to launch their debut album titled, “How Are You? We Are Fine Thank You”. The Album title is a symbolic portrayal of the ‘Authority’ asking out of pseudo concern (How are you?) and the satiric reply of the common man (We are fine, Thank you) out of resigned helplessness. Themes of their songs revolve around perspectives of people in the society who feel oppressed and hemmed by obstacles the authority pits against them.

Produced by the highly acclaimed Guitarist Keshav Dhar of Skyharbor, the band is all set for a November release. The album teaser has been released along with the artwork in their newly launched website – thedowntroddence.in. The Album art has been conceived by upcoming artist Abhijith. They had recently unveiled their new logo/mascot ‘Pottan’, designed by Wow Makers.
