Coshish Launches Debut Album ‘Firdous’ Under Universal Music India Label & Announces Tour Dates

Mumbai based four-piece progressive rock band Coshish has released their debut album titled Firdous under Universal Music India, the label which has previously released albums by other critically acclaimed artists and bands including Euphoria, Rabbi Shergill, Lesle Lewis, Jal The Band and Indus Creed.

Firdous is a concept album consisting of ten tracks that document the life of a seemingly ordinary young man and his transition into becoming a self aware being, free from the ties of the material world. The CD contains photographs and handwritten lyrics behind them which are part of a puzzle in which listeners need to piece together the correct order of songs in the story. The album has been produced, recorded and mixed by Zorran Mendonsa (New Zealand), mastered by Jens Bogren (Sweden). Additional sounds and samples were recorded at Rattlehead Studio. The album artwork was created by Bernard Dumaine (France) and Daeve Fellows (Canada) along with additional art by Imran Ladak (India).

Coshish consists of Mangesh Gandhi (vocals, rhythm guitars), Shrikant Sreenivasan (lead guitars), Hamza Kazi (drums) and Anish Nair (bass). The band has been active since 2006 and has been featured on MTV’s Rock On, NDTV and Channel [V] India’s V Gumrah. Coshish has performed at several prestigious festivals across India including Storm Festival, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, The Blue Frog, IIT Mumbai and VCET. Coshish was voted as the Top 5 Headlining Act and Most Featured Band of Season 10 by UTV Bindass TV.

Coshish will be touring throughout India and has announced the Mumbai dates for the first leg of their tour. The dates for Pune, Chennai, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad will be announced soon.

The Down Troddence to Release Their Debut Album Soon

After the stir that the prodigious track, ‘Shiva’ created among the fans in 2011, Kannur-based band The Down Troddence’s upcoming album is no doubt one of the most anticipated record in the Indian metal scene. The album, which releases later this year, will be the band’s first full length release and is being produced by the main-man of the most sensuous band in the Indian scene (Skyharbor), Keshav Dhar. We recently saw the new mascot designed for the album by Wow Makers, which is very reminiscent of a Kathakali dance character, brilliantly accounting for the folk and classical influences of the band.

The band released a promo clip featuring Rex Vijayan of Avial, who gives his views on the album. Putting TDT’s sound in the “world music” category, rather than classifying it as solely metal, Rex says that he was very amazed seeing how really aware the members of the band are about their sound and how perfectly they work out to achieve it too. He loved the solos on the album, finding them to be much more dynamic and melodic than solos which we generally hear on metal tracks. The clip also features a small section from one of the songs off the album. The sound looks very melodic, powerful and clearly has the ability and drive that we witness in TDT’s live performances.

The Down Troddence has clearly put a lot hard work and dedication over the past 2-3 years to come up with this album and is pretty excited about its release, which would take place in a couple of months. The band says, “We are currently in the final stages of production and are all extremely happy with how things are going. TDT is a band still in infancy and we are continually evolving from stage to stage, as we search for our true voice. Kerala folk culture has always been and will continue to be a significant influence on our music. It is where the roots of TDT are grounded. Metal is a medium that gives expression to our voice. We feel our concepts and our ideas are best received through this genre.

“Fans can expect a new sound from TDT which is completely different from our previous releases. We have taken really good care on the production side and we are sure that our fans will be happy with our final output. We thank Keshav Dhar for delivering what exactly we wanted in our sound and also credits goes to our keyboardist, Sushin Shyam for his guidance throughout the entire production process.

“We wrapped up the whole recording in 6 days. Funny part is that Munz was suffering from health problems and we couldn’t afford to postpone our recording as we had set timelines for everything. But he still nailed each and every song and finished everything on time. It was a true learning experience working with Keshav and his guidance had helped us a lot in wrapping everything up on time.

“Talking about the tracks, each and every song has a story or concept behind it. It is very well connected and goes with the ideology of the band. We have taken good care of the lyrical part as well.”

PLAN AHEAD FOR THE SONIC STONE FEST II

For all the Chennaiites, here’s some happy news! The Unseen Underground Sonic Stone Fest-II featuring the Metal Giants Delhi is heading to Chennai for the first time ever! Yes, the band that will be headlining the fest will be Undying Inc, a band knowing for making some heart throbbing heavy metal music as early as 2004! January 2010 turned out to be a very important year for them as they marked a terrific entry by emerging as winners in the Chennai Sangamam Festival and subsequently finishing first at IIT-Chennai’s Saarang Festival. Some artists in India have come a long way, on a path of glory and hard work, which has transcended them to a new level of excellence, creating an absolute example for the up and coming. Thermal and A Quarter have always been a focussed and state-of-the-art band and with their fifth studio release ‘3 Wheels, 9 Lives’, we pretty much got into them more than we ever were. Formed in November 2011, The Academic created a stir in the Irish alternative charts with their single ‘Bear Claws’ and are now working on their debut album which is expected to be released later this year.

These shows are part of the massive Bangalore Rock Tour, which was announced by the band earlier. The itinerary consists of over 35 shows starting from BFlat Bar in Bangalore to many different places around the world including Glasgow and Edinburgh along with other places to be announced. So wish these guys luck! Let’s see if these guys with just “a quarter” can outdrink the Irish!

EDM Artist Beltek to Perform in India!

The EDM scene is getting pretty hot for fans around the country as a lot of foreign DJs and EDM artists are setting their foot in India! We witnessed artists like Steve Haines and Michael Calfan pulling out some crazy gigs over the last weekend and now we have the Slovenian electronic dance music DJ, producer and remixer, Martin Bijelić, known professionally as Beltek. Specialized in progressive house and electro house, Beltek is making a visit to India on the following dates:

Beltek is known for his tracks, ‘Copacabana’, ‘Par’, ‘Kenta’, ‘Eclipse’, ‘Go’ and ‘Party Voice!’ which are widely played in parties and included in many compilations by leading EDM artists and labels. . His song ‘Kenta’ was selected by Tiësto for his ‘In Search Of Sunrise 7’compilation and he was later supported in the 15 Minutes Of Fame slot of his Club Life radio show. In 2012, Beltek produced official track Party Voice for Ultra Music Festival remix competition. He recently released a new single titled ‘Inhale’ which can be streamed on Beatport.

Getting into the scene in 2008, his career spurred when his track ‘Copacabana’ won Pete Tong’s competition. Beltek’s name pops out on top of EDM music charts and labels such as Dim Mak, Ministry of Sound, Toolroom, Armada etc. His versatile production skills and fingerprint mass appealing sound already assured him remixing duties for major artists such as Faithless, Booka Shade, Gareth Emery and others.

Solar Deity Finishes recording ‘Devil Worship’

Satanic Black Metal overlords Solar Deity have finished recording the follow-up to ‘The Darkness Of Being’ and the sequel to their debut ‘In The Name Of Satan’. The second part of the band’s ‘Satan’ trilogy, ‘Devil Worship’ will be released very soon, and according to guitarist/vocalist Aditya Mehta, is as intense as the previous ones but much darker than anything they’ve done before.

The other half of Indian’s most ferocious black metal band, bassist Animesh ‘Asmo’ Das, says, “Programming drums for the three tracks took longer than what both of us expected, and all the effort reflects in what will be heard. Ashwin’s (Shriyan, producer) prowess made it easier, but by the time we finished work on the second track, I was already at my wit’s end, deconstructing and restructuring the patterns, rolls and fills that were written for each riff.”

With piercing tremolo picked riffs and insane blastbeats, the band’s first release, ‘In The Name Of Satan’ was a rather faultless blend of melody and aggression, giving us nothing but pure essence of viciousness. Whereas, ‘The Darkness Of Being’ continued to caress the prowess that the band had so pristinely displayed in their first EP and their single ‘Snowless’. Songs like ‘Ceremonial Feast At The Black Temple’, ‘Blasphemous Chanting On A Moonless Night’ and ‘Circling The Moon’ quickly drew the attention of all heavy listeners across the country as Black Metal was something rare to come across in India despite the country’s growing population of metal bands. Solar Deity’s stature further elevated with excellent performances in Mumbai and mainly with their killer debut performance at the Trendslaughter Fest III earlier this year, where they adapted the attire of grim reapers by dressing up in black robes.

‘Devil Worship’ is being produced by Ashwin Shriyan (bassist of Demonic Resurrection and Reptilian Death) at Mindmap Studio, and will be released via Nephalist Recordings. The artwork, release date and track list will be made available shortly on this website.

3 Wise Monkeys and CT Records presents, RAINY PUNK GALORE on 15th August 2013 in Mumbai

The Lightyears Explode and Punk On Toast host Rainy Punk Galore which is a version of the D.I.Y. punk rock gigs organized by CT Records. This gig is happening on 15^th August to mark the Independence Day relative to the punk rock fraternity @ 3 Wise Monkeys in Khar, Mumbai.

The Lightyears Explode are a vibrant bunch of punks who believe in using the melody of music to convey their messages. Catch riff’s, upbeat vocals and power packed bass and drum combo somewhat defines this Modern Punk Rock Band. The band comprises of Saurabh, Benjamin and Aaron and all their fans that follow them around.

Punk On Toast is an aggressive anti-social act with crunchy guitars, screechy vocals and fast drum and bass kind of sound. They have a take on all the right political issues and make mockery of the same through their songs like “Democracy is a fucking lie!”, “For Hire” and “Satyagraha is Gay!”. A promising power packed performance from this angsty band whether live or on CD. Aditya, Yogesh, Suyog and Prathamesh make up this power quadrant.

CT Records has a events leg – Punk Smells Good Live! and has done 3 shows under this label so far. No sponsorship, independent, DIY ethics are highly displayed by the label while organizing gigs like Punk Rock Explosion, Disenfranchised In India Launch Gigs in Mumbai, Delhi, Shillong. Slash Tour Cancelled

Well, it seems fans of Slash in India have to wait for some more time to get a glimpse of the guitar legend. Slash’s India tour, previously scheduled for February 2013 and later postponed to October 2013 (read here), has been officially cancelled. The same was confirmed by the official fan page of Slash in Facebook and Twitter earlier today.

This is the 3^rd time such an incident has taken place involving Slash. Please watch this space for more updates as and when they happen. In other news, we may get to hear some new material from the legend soon.
